About the Board

The Board was established in 1934 to protect the public by establishing, maintaining and monitoring sanitary and professional standards in the barber industry. The Board's mission is to enforce those standards through examinations, routine inspections, investigations and disciplinary action. It is mandated by Chapter 4709. Of the Ohio Revised Code to license barbers, barber shops, barber schools and barber teachers and has authority to deny, suspend or revoke a license for just cause.

The Barber Board anticipates a short service shut down during the move to the Ohio State Cosmetology Board facility. This service disruption should be limited to the time period Monday November 27, 2017 thru Wednesday November 29, 2017. The Barber Board will be returning voice mails and emails as quickly as possible.

From this new location, the Barber Board will continue to operate as an independent Barber Board until the effective date of the merger on January 21, 2018. This transition has taken place to allow the Ohio State Barber Board staff to acclimate to the new location and to allow for a seamless transition designed to minimize any interruption of services.

In our continuing effort to share information with you about the upcoming changes related to the Ohio State Barber Board and the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology. The Ohio State Barber Board is to be abolished January 21, 2018, per Am. Sub. H.B. 49. BARBER BOARD ADDRESS CHANGE

The Ohio Barber Board is to be abolished January 21, 2018, per Am. Sub. H.B. 49. Our operations will be merged with the State Cosmetology Board on January 21, 2018 and the Boards will then be renamed the State Cosmetology and Barber Board. For operation convenience, the Barber Board will be moving our office and staff to the office of the Cosmetology Board on Tuesday, November 28, 2017. From this new location, we will continue to operate as an independent Barber Board until the effective date of the merger.
